The Street Department has begun leaf collection throughout the city. Crews are currently working through town in the following order:
Planned Leaf Collection Route:
- North/South Streets: Beginning on Front Street and working west toward Warpole Street.
- East/West Streets: Beginning on High Street and working north toward Houpt Drive.
- Additions and East Side: Once the above streets are completed, crews will move into the residential additions and then continue working east.
Leaf Collection Guidelines and Safety Reminders:
To help our crews operate safely and efficiently, reduce equipment damage, and minimize delays, we ask residents to follow these guidelines:
- Leaf Placement: Rake leaves to the edge of the roadway in manageable piles where they can be easily accessed by our collection equipment. Please keep leaves out of the traveled portion of the roadway.
- Keep Leaves Clear of Obstacles: Do not pile leaves around street signs, utility poles, mailboxes, fire hydrants, trees, or other fixed objects. These obstacles make collection difficult and increase the risk of equipment damage or operator injury.
- Parked Vehicles: Do not place leaf piles behind or between parked vehicles. Whenever possible, please avoid parking directly in front of leaf piles to allow our crews adequate access.
- Stone Driveways and Landscaping: Do not rake leaves over gravel or stone driveways, landscaping rocks, mulch beds, or other landscape materials. Stones and debris can be pulled into the collection equipment, potentially causing significant damage or creating dangerous flying debris.
- Keep Foreign Materials Out of Leaf Piles:Leaf piles should contain leaves only. Please do not mix in sticks, branches, brush, trash, grass clippings, rocks, or other debris. These materials can clog or damage collection equipment and create safety hazards for our operators.
- Avoid Drainage Structures: Keep leaf piles away from catch basins, storm drains, and drainage ditches to prevent blockages and potential street flooding.
Collection Schedule:
Our crews will continue working through the city as weather, leaf volume, equipment availability, and other departmental responsibilities allow. The planned collection route may be adjusted as necessary.
Following these guidelines will help reduce unnecessary delays, prevent costly equipment damage, protect our employees and the public, and allow crews to collect leaves more efficiently throughout the city.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to provide this service to our residents.
